Fresh Margarita Recipe

For glass rim: (optional, but recommended)

  • 2 small plates
  • Lime juice
  • Choice of flavor: coarse salt, sugar, seasoning like Tajin (or mix them!)

On Plate 1, add a layer of lime juice. On Plate 2, sprinkle a layer of your chosen flavor. Flip your glass upside down Plate 1, coating the rim with the lime juice. Then do the same on Plate 2, coating the rim with flavor.

For the drink:

  • 1.5 oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. triple sec
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice
  • Choice of sweetener: sugar, simple syrup, agave nectar, whatever you have on-hand

Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Strain into a lowball & fill with fresh ice. Garnish with a lime or orange wedge.

  • Switch the lowball glass for a highball, and top your complete margarita with club soda for a light fizz.
  • Replace 1/2 oz. of tequila with mezcal for a smoky flavor that pairs well with summer BBQ.

La Paloma is the true national cocktail of Mexico, making it a staple for any Mexican-inspired feast. It requires fewer ingredients than the marg, and is a great option if you keep grapefruit juice around.
