Our own light & flowery cocktail using a classic recipe.

Once you have your own herb garden set up & sproutin’ a variety of herbs, you’ll be able to get truly creative with your simple home bar.

The first time we grew lavender, we experimented by adding a bunch into the pot while we made simple syrup. The result was a not-overpowering flowery sweetener that screamed “ADD ME TO GIN!”

The quicker you can pull up your knowledge, the easier at-home experimentation is. Know the ingredients of your favorite cocktails & the flavor profiles of all the liquors (and liqueurs) that you have. Know what is overpowering & what takes on flavor

Our experience with gin martinis & old-fashioneds made this cocktail easy to create. Our thought process was something like…

  1. We have lavender-flavored simple syrup.
  2. Old-Fashioneds have simple syrup.
  3. Lavender would go with the botanicals in gin.
  4. I always put extra bitters in my gin martinis…
  5. A gin-based old-fashioned!?

We tried one & loved it. The next round, we grabbed our cocktail smoker & gave it another layer of flavor. We didn’t like it as much. The third round, we went back to the first recipe — and that’s the one we’re sharing with you.

This is exactly what the Simple Home Bar philosophy is: if you have the essentials and the knowledge, you can easily unleash your creativity, practice a mindful ritual, and make yourself something new & exciting to drink.
